Why Silence?

Why Silence?

People stay silent for different reasons

1. Sensitive to others' opinions/reactions 2. Know intuitively it is not the right time or person to speak to. 3. Your knowledge is limited on the subject, and it is better to listen and do your own research 4. Someone is underestimating your intelligence, and rather than unnecessary defensiveness, you just choose to observe 5. You are pausing for higher guidance, whether from yourself or spirit

Silence can work for you or against you. Learning discernment in different situations comes after trial and error. More and more I respect quietness for strength rather than weakness. Is it better to win the argument or just honor everyone’s perspective and keep from a harmful argument? Neither approach is right or wrong, but I now wait before deciding if it is even worthwhile for me to convince or expect a change of heart. Asking myself "why?" tends to help me decide what is best for each situation.

More and more, I respect the Buddhist philosophy which honors silence
